MIDC Mahad: A Chemical Zone on the Savitri
MIDC Mahad in Raigad district was set up in 1981-82, with the Additional Mahad Industrial Area following in 1995-96. Pollution-board filings place the estate near the old NH-17 and about 3 km from the Savitri river. The estate is dominated by chemical manufacturing - specialty and fine chemicals, dyes and pesticides - with bulk-drug and intermediate makers among the consent holders listed by the Maharashtra Pollution Control Board.
Effluent is handled through a common effluent treatment plant of about 7.5 MLD, with treated effluent piped to the saline reach of the Savitri (Bankot) creek. Mahad has a documented compliance history: in 2010 the board issued closure directions to units found discharging sub-standard effluent. Plants in Mahad therefore work under close scrutiny of both process discharge and housekeeping.
Bulk Drugs and Intermediates: Where Stainless Tube Fits
Reaction chemistry in Mahad plants runs mostly in glass-lined, carbon-steel and high-alloy equipment, and process piping is usually specified by the process licensor or EPC. Stainless tube from a mill like ours fits on three kinds of line: solvent and reagent transfer where 316L is compatible with the chemistry; utilities such as purified water, nitrogen and process water; and the final stages of an API process - crystallisation, centrifugation, drying and packing - where product purity and cleanability decide the specification.
Electropolishing earns its place in those final API stages and in purified-water systems, because the purified product and the water it touches must not pick up particulate or residue. Upstream in the reaction train, alloy selection matters far more than finish: tell us the solvents, acids and chloride levels and we will advise 316L, duplex 2205 or a higher alloy, and say so plainly when an electropolished bore adds nothing.
Chlorides, Acids and Pitting: Grade Selection for Mahad Chemistry
- 316L: general solvent service, purified water, nitrogen and most utilities.
- Duplex 2205: chloride-bearing streams, brine and hot dilute acids where 316L would pit or stress-crack.
- Higher alloys: strong acids and halogenated chemistry as specified by your licensor - we will tell you if a requirement is outside our range rather than offer an unsuitable substitute.
- Finish: electropolished SF4 on final API stages and high-purity lines; mechanically polished or pickled elsewhere.
Effluent Pressure and Cleaner Lines
With effluent volumes watched closely, anything that reduces wash water and cleaning chemical has value in Mahad. Electropolished product-contact lines clean faster and more completely, which shortens cleaning cycles and the effluent they generate. That is a secondary benefit - the primary reason to specify EP is product quality - but in a CETP-constrained estate it is a real one.
Delivery to MIDC Mahad
Mahad is a road run down the Konkan coast from Mumbai. Dispatch and transit are confirmed in writing per quotation. For export-bound project material the nearest listed gateway is JNPT Nhava Sheva, about 120 km away.
