Duplex 2205 (UNS S32205 / S31803 / EN 1.4462) is the workhorse dual-phase stainless steel seamless pipe, engineered with a balanced ~50% ferrite and ~50% austenite microstructure. Its chemistry comprises 22.0%-23.0% Chromium, 4.5%-6.5% Nickel, 3.0%-3.5% Molybdenum, and 0.14%-0.20% Nitrogen, yielding a Pitting Resistance Equivalent Number (PREN) > 35. This dual-phase structure delivers approximately double the yield strength (≥450 MPa) of standard 316L (220 MPa) in the solution-annealed condition, allowing engineers to significantly reduce wall thickness and pipe weight for equivalent pressure ratings under ASME B31.3. Furthermore, the ferrite phase imparts virtual immunity to chloride stress corrosion cracking (SCC). Sakshi Forge manufactures Duplex 2205 seamless pipes via hot extrusion and cold drawing, followed by rapid water quenching from 1020-1100°C to lock in phase balance and prevent embrittling sigma phase precipitation.
