Electropolishing is an electrochemical process that removes a thin layer of metal from the tube surface. It lowers surface roughness, removes the directional grain left by mechanical polishing and leaves a chromium-rich passive layer, so the surface cleans faster, resists corrosion better and gives bacteria and residues less to hold on to.

Mechanical polishing abrades the surface and leaves directional grain lines and, sometimes, embedded abrasive.
